Optimize Image File names and Alt Attributes for SEO

10/21/2013

Picture
Images should be optimized for the search engines. While the search engine crawlers do not see the images, they can crawl the image tag (<img>) in the HTML code. The image file names should reflect the image content. The alt attribute is an image tag value that describes the image for the search engine. The caption attribute appears under the images and describes them for the search engine as well. Title is another image tag attribute - While it is not mandatory in SEO, it is still important to build a professional image tag in your HTML code, especially for Magento SEO and other eCommerce platforms.

How do I upload images to the server?
You upload images to the website server using FTP (File Transfer Protocol). It allows you to upload images and files to a server and display them by typing the server’s URL or image path in your browser.

What are the best image formats to use?
Web browsers support various formats, such as JPG, PNG, and GIF. JPG is the most commonly used format. It maintains good quality, and the file size is smaller. PNG is suitable for images that include transparent parts. The images are good quality; however, the file sizes are larger than JPGs. GIF supports both still image and animated sequence. It has a low color range support of only 256 colors.

Prepare your website for SEO

Your website is the most important element in the search engine optimization (SEO) process. You can optimize a well-built website easily and it will get a high ranking by default. A poorly structured website may be impossible to optimize and your SEO efforts may not help it reach the top of the search engine results. Thus, it is important to prepare your website before applying any SEO steps.

User-Friendly Functions

User friendly functions is very important because once visitors locate what they need on a website, they remain on the website for a longer time.
If users are satisfied with the website, they will save it as a Favorite and return to it again. If they find your website
hard to use and they cannot find information easily, you will never be able to keep them on the site, even if you use
every possible SEO tactic.

Website Design Structure

One of the important things to consider is the website design. The clean design with optimized images can load fast and
search engines can crawl it faster than a website with large-sized images, which take a long time to load. Also, a flexible
design that can be modified easily allows you to customize your website based on the SEO recommendations.

'Website Navigation

Navigation is very important to search engines, and website pages should be linked to each other so users can easily

reach any page on a website from the other pages on the site. A web page that does not allow you to navigate to other
pages on the website is called a dead link, and dead links are a bad practice in the SEO industry. The best way to unify
your website pages is to create a menu that is located on each web page that visitors can use to link to other pages within the website.

SEO Website Functions

When you build your website, you have to consider functions that help the SEO process. For example, you can add a section under each post or content area that tells users about related topics on the website. Then they can visit the
content for the related topics and get more information. This can help increase your website page views and the time
users spend on your website.

SEO Techniques

Search engine traffic is one of the greatest factors for success for your website, because you can
turn this traffic into potential customers or suscribers. The SEO process includes a number of
techniques that you need to apply in parallel to move your website to the top of the search engine
rankings and drive traffic to your website.
Search engine optimization techniques include different on-site and off-site strategies, which are
known as On-page and Off-page optimization methods. Each type of method is very important and
required to achieve successful SEO.

Target Your User, Not the Search Engine

When a visitor has a good experience on your website, he or she will return to the website because of its useful
content. The number of returning visitors indicates the ratio of repeat visitors compared to new visitors.
Even if you use good SEO, if the website content is poor, the results can be very disappointing; visitors who
come to your website via search engines will not return again, which results in useless SEO efforts.

Apply On-page SEO

The On-page SEO techniques applied to the website itself make it search engine friendly. On-page simply
refers to the optimization methods applied to the website or blog pages that will appear in the search
engine results when the user types specific search terms. These methods are the first step in the
optimization process when you are creating your website. Designing your website starts as early as when
you are choosing your business or website name and identity. On-page SEO techniques include choosing a
suitable domain name for the website, which is what users will type in their browsers to reach your website.
It also includes creating the meta tags added to the HTML code that contain information about the website,
such as its title, description, and related keywords, as well as optimizing the content heading, site content
loading speed, keywords, site navigation, and site design structure. Although the On-page SEO techniques
do not drive direct traffic to your website like the off-page SEO techniques, it makes the site content easier
to reach by the search engine crawlers. It helps to categorize and index the site pages easier and faster
than websites that do not apply these techniques.

Apply Off-page SEO

Unlike the On-page optimization techniques, the Off-page optimization techniques refer to the methods you
apply outside the website to increase its rank, traffic, and visibility in the search engine. The methods are
implemented and have either a direct or indirect impact on the website’s traffic and its ranking in the
search results. These methods may use third-party tools or websites such as directories and social
networking websites to help build links to the website and improve traffic. The Off-page optimization
includes link building, which refers to increasing the number of links that point to the website content.
Off-page optimization also includes submitting your website to search engines and directories; and
promoting it through press releases, articles, and more. You address Off-page methods after you apply
On-page SEO and add content to your website. Both the On-page SEO techniques and the Off-page
techniques are important to consider when you are optimizing your website. For example, you can use the
website social network page on Facebook to drive traffic to a website, while at the same time, the website
loads quickly, or the incoming user will leave the website without reading the content.

At Flagship Design, we believe Google Analytics is an essential tool for SEO. Looking at the image above, it might look crazy - but once you get to learn how to master the functions you will realise how important it is for your SEO campaign.

Making the Initial Login

When you first go to learn about Google Analytics, you must first visiting the official website which grants you access to the analytical page of Google’s main website. Once you have arrived at the site, be sure to login with a unique username and password. Once you have a username and password created, sign in and you will gain access to a giant list which keeps track of all kinds of websites and blogs that you wish to track. Google allows you to track multiple sites and blogs within your own personal account. If you wish to review a website with Google Analytics, click on “view reports” next to the website and that will take you directly to the dashboard page.

Exploring the Dashboard As you enter the dashboard you come across many different screenshots which show off a number of reports made through Google Analytics. You can view the images in more detail by clicking on them. Within the reports you’ll find a levy of information pertaining to the number of visitors to the site, the sources of traffic on the site, and a map overlay of the site and any of its content. You gain the freedom to move all this content around and add additional reports into the dashboard. Better yet, you can even remove content that you don’t want to have simply by dragging and dropping the content. Google Analytics was designed to be fluid and fully customizable according to the preferences of the user.

Site Usage Metrics

When you look at a report of a website, you will generally find the same type of information from time to time in a template format. Here are the most common categories and what they mean:

  • Visits: This represents the number of people who have visited the website in total.

  • Page views: The page views check off the total number of pages that have been viewed on the website.

  • Pages/Visit: This is an averaged out number of page views for each visit on the site.

  • Percentage of New Visits: The percentage will sort out the number of people who are new to the site compared to those who visit the site frequently.

When looking at Google Analytics you’ll be given the last thirty days of activity that the website has been given. However, the setting can be changed to alter this so that you can see more or less days of activity. Simply clicks on the range box in the upper right corner of the screen and change the “comparison” drop-down from “site” to “date range.” Then enter the dates that you wish to follow. Reversing it will change it back to the way it was. This is a great way to see if a website’s traffic is trending in an upward or downhill position.

In Conclusion Google Analytics has a lot going for it right now,If you are serious about SEO then it is a must have tool.
More and more features continue to pop up that make it very user friendly. When you need to find a report on a website, there’s no better place to check out website traffic than on Google Analytics.

Being Recognized
A lot of people want to get their blogs noticed. They want to have enough exposure for people to see their work and comment on them. The more people who visit and comment on the content, the more likely that you will gain more loyal fans and possibly potential customers should there ever come a time to fund and/or provide merchandise for the website. A successful blog can often lead to:

  • 1,Enough readers to make your own website and generate advertising funds.
  • 2,Notability on a big name website.
  • 3,Critical acclaim by professional writers on your work.

Sometimes a simple blog is how a major online entertainment company can get its initial first steps. Here are a few ways that you can get those first few views of your blog.

If you want to become a successful writer, blogger, or anything relating to writing, you’re going to have to learn to write a lot. And not just a few pages a day. You may have to write up to two or three thousand words a day at a time in order to practice and ensure that you have your writing stills down to a science. Always keep writing and always have new content for your blog. This will create much more interest and have people check out more of your site and, more importantly, they will want to learn more about you.

Put the Blogs in Search Engines Getting on a search engine through a service like SEO ( see our Hong Kong SEO service ) is a great way to get more people to see your blogs. They will be able to find you by searching the right keywords and, upon doing so, will notice that you have something insightful to add to the themes or topics that you decide to write about. The more attention a blog gets, the more likely that it will become a successful one that a ton of eyes will be set upon.

Keep the Blog updated with a blogroll.

Remember, it’s important to make sure that you have your blog updated to meet the everyday demands of the blog site. Using blogrolls will allow for updates to be made frequently. A blog that is updated all the time will be easier to find and the links will have a better chance of turning up higher in a search engine. Hopefully there will be interested readers who check the ling to your blog and your content will prove to be both interesting and enjoyable to read. Eventually these become the loyal readers.

Commenting and link building
Use Comments to Your Advantage It’s important to note that comments made on a blog are very important for making blog traffic. If you respond to a comment, you’ll show the readers that you have genuine interest in what they have to say. This can lead into conversations which will ultimately increase the overall reader loyalty. Also, feel free to leave your own comments on other blogs with similar interests to yours in order to make a new form of traffic. Adding your blog’s URL within the comment will help direct people to you and link building. If you make an interesting comment, chances are good that the reader will click on the link and that will increase your own traffic.

Facebook Marketing

Make Posts that Inspire AND Share

Facebook is a great online social marketing tool for sharing thoughts and opinions with others.
You want to get more Likes on your posts? Well the first thing to remember is that it’s important to have a post that opens up for sharing. Have a message that could be given to various people all across the country. Make sure that your Facebook friends see the status and comment on it. The more comments, the more likely that people will like the post. This way the current Facebook fans will share your content while new fans will Like your content because of the ones who shared. It’s a win-win situation you want to be in if you want to receive more Likes.

Be Consistent

Always find the time to make a post. Even better, make a post five times a week so you always have something new to share with your fans. Better yet, one post per day will help let others know that you’re not only consistent with keeping your page up to date, but you’re also big on getting information and personal matters shared with as soon as humanly possible. This creates great engagements with the fans later down the line.

The Timing is Everything

Knowing when the best possible time to post is will often depend on the type of business you’re in while trying to gain Likes for your Facebook page. Getting something like a Post Planner will help you plan out the best average times in which a comment should be posted in order to receive the most reviews. A Post Planner will also:

  • Keep track of the times of your posts

  • Alert when the right time to post is going to be

  • Provide the times of other posts from Facebook friends

However, there is no one true time to post, so experiment and see which times get you the most attention.

Have Some Pretty Imagery

People love looking at beautiful photos and videos. If you alternate your posts with the occasional video and/or photograph to go along with your text-only updates, you’re going to double or even triple the amount of people, and therefore the number of Likes, that you’ll receive each day. Sites like Instagram and Pinterest are all about image posting, so there’s definitely a precedent set for this behavior. Also, if a post of yours is between 100 and 150 characters there is a 60% chance that the post will receive more Likes, shares and comments than a long post.

Relate to the Fans

You want to be down to Earth with the fans. Let them know that you speak the same language they do. Let them know that you know what they’re all about and what they are looking for in a quality Facebook post. Make sure that your posts sounds like they come from the heart and are truly meaningful to you. When that occurs, more people will take what you write down seriously and will more likely put down a Like in response. This gives you the chance to open up more with your fans.

Always Entertain the Fans

The people who go on Facebook are always looking to be amused by a text or an image. Even a short video that can give them a laugh will most likely deliver quite a few Likes for your posts. Make sure that once in awhile you have a post with a slight comedic edge to it that gives the Fans enough of a chuckle to want to read more of your posts and, as a result, add more Likes to your Facebook page. With all these ways and more, Facebook Likes can be earned with relative ease.

Pagination & Duplication

Getting Pagination Figured Out

The most important issue for Hong Kong SEO working for clients with large sites is pagination; duplicate contents. In most cases, this duplication in contents do not cause Google penalty. In many cases, the tackling of duplicate contents may help you to do online store SEO on a large scale. With the assistance of Google spider (a program), this can be crawled in a short period of time. If the duplication issue is not considered then crawler will cover up different versions of same page for safety.

Finding Duplicate Content

The first step for finding the duplicate content is being able to define it in the first place. Once the reasons for the duplicate content are found it can then be solved using various redirects which can be canonical or no-indexed through a page. Lot of tools has been proven to be very useful but the following tools are better than anything else. You can spot a duplicate page and compare the pages with highlight that would be provided by the utensils.

The Duplicate Finding tackle

  • Google Webmasters Tools: These Tools will help out you to check on the wellbeing of your site for replica

  • Screaming Frog: So what is it? Well it is a SEO program that goes through your site and all of the pages that it contains, once it has done that it then sends back all the information it has gathered, for example descriptions, titles, metrics and status codes.

  • Virante Duplicate Content Checker: This contrivance would test out listings found on Google and check any duplicate content available.

Various Session Identifications

So that there is a chance to track any returning customers to the online store, an online track user session will have to be put in. There are things called cookies which do the same kind of thing but not every search engine has cookies stored in it. So what tends to be used instead are what are called session IDs and these act as an alternative to cookies. So what are session IDs? Well, they are variables that are dynamic and they are stored information that comes from various settings that are changed while a user is in their session. Having these session IDs stopped are the best solutions really and form the very first moment, but if this cannot be achieved then you should really get in contact with someone called a webmaster and ask them if they can work out a solution for you to stop this from happening.

Pages that are in Pint and Mobile and getting them

If you have an online store you will more than likely have a mobile version of it as well, and what you need to consider is that if you do not follow the correct practices then you could end up with your content not only being duplicated but also issues with the version that is for mobiles. Something else that the mobile site may do is flag up similar content to the main site. This something that you do not want to have happen when the Google bot takes a look at your mobile version, if it does and finds that it is a duplicate then this is not good for you. One way of making sure that this does not happen is by having the search page redirected to the category page that is the nearest. One program that has this kind of option built into it is called Magneto. But if a redirection cannot be put in place then Mets robots or canonical tags would then be allowed and implemented as a no index.
